In the last year, over 30 local governments have moved to divest from fossil fuels. They’ve been joined by a host of individuals, foundations, and universities. We hope you will join us for an in-depth examination of the issues and a discussion of what institutions can do to lower their carbon risk. We are hosting this forum to address Carbon Risk in investment portfolios because we believe addressing carbon risk by divesting is financially, morally, and politically prudent. Minimizing carbon risk by divesting is an emerging financial best practice and at the Boston forum we intend to deepen our knowledge of how to do so in a way that ensures we can meet our obligations to future generations.

This is a growing movement and we must now map out the path forward for responsibly moving our assets into more sustainable investments. Understanding carbon risk and divesting from fossil fuels is a complex process and one that must be undertaken in a deliberate manner to ensure we can meet our obligations to employees, retirees and residents. The Forum will provide a unique opportunity for local governments and the institutional financial sector to interface on the components and implications of fossil fuel divestment. The Forum will build off of the successful Seattle Divestment Forum.
